Youth (The Journey)

Second Church boasts a dynamic, bold and FUN youth program called The Journey that meets every weekend and Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. Email Youth Director, Lindsay Morris, @ lamorris25@hotmail.com for a schedule of activities.

Where to Grow:
6th through 8th Grade, Confirmation Study (Library Room 206)

Middle School students gather around in ancient Japanese furniture for a discussion driven time of what it means to be a Christ-follower—in their classes, on their teams, and with their friends. This is a 35-week confirmation program and also fantastic curriculum for any middle school student.

9th through 12th Grade, Stories from the OT (Youth Room)
Forget the TV junk from OC, we got own custom high-drama stories from the OT (aka the Old Testatment). Come hang out, play some ping-pong, paint at our art station, and study with our published curriculum author, Virginia Street.

What are Journey Dinner Nights?

The Journey comes to together to break bread (or pizza, or burritos) one weekend a month. Depending on the place, we’ll either meet at the church and walk there together or we’ll gather at the restaurant itself. Dinner nights usually cost around $10 per student.

What are Journey Fellowship Events?

Fellowship Events are designed for the youth to do something fun together and bring their friends, even if church may be the last thing on their minds. From movie nights, to bowling parties, to our legendary paintball trips, we’re always having a good time. Most events will cost about $5-$10 per student.

What happens at a Journey at the Church night?

Good question! The Journey’s youth program is separated by a series of activities and talks. Students arrive at 5:00 pm and for approximately the first 30 minutes it’s a time of socialization, painting, ping-pong and foosball. Then, everyone is called together for opening worship music and announcements. Following that, they play an exciting game or put their creative skills to work with a craft project. Afterwards, they then break into small groups that are lead by our amazing youth leaders to discuss in relevant detail how to apply what God is saying to us in our daily lives. Lastly, everyone meets back together for dinner in the fellowship hall at 6:30 pm. Parents begin to arrive at 6:45 pm to pick up their kids (and sneak a bite to eat). And that’s a wrap!

What are your Journey Service Projects like?

Recognizing that we cannot claim to be followers of Jesus without actually doing what He commands us to do, The Journey works hard to find a diversity of service projects that range from working on a Habitat for Humanity house to caroling at the Presbyterian Village. This is where we get to be the hands and feet of Christ, serving and loving on those in need.

What makes The Journey unique?

Multi-Sensory Worship- Worship isn’t just about music, it’s about prayer, meditation, and art too. We encourage our students to use our art station when they feel led to so they can better worship and connect to God with the gifts He gave them (1 Corinthians 12:4).
Sharing the
Gospel- Sharing our real and genuine faith is priority number one at The Journey. Heaven is real, Hell is real, and the way we prove our love to our friends is by helping them on the search for the joy and forgiveness that God offers freely (John 3:16). However, we don’t believe it’s best done through emotional altar calls or rallies, but through speaking to people’s needs and living out Christ in our daily lives (2 Corinthians 5:17-21, John 13:35).
Humble Teaching- We don’t have all the answers and what we see now is only a part of God’s whole truth (1 Corinthians 13:11), so we try to emphasize Jesus and the clear teachings of the Bible while saving the debate on Calvinism and Arminianism and other such "isms" for another day.

The Big Picture

If we give our lives to Christ, then every thought should be brought under the Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5) - our relationships, our sports, our classes, our values. Everything. The Journey wants to be a place for students to explore how knowing God changes everything.
