F.A.Q.
What time is your Sunday School and worship service?
Our Sunday School starts at 10:00am in the Education Building (the big building that doesn’t have a steeple) and the worship service is at 11:15am.
How long is your worship service?
Our service is a little over an hour long. Afterwards, everyone is invited to the fellowship hall across the way for punch and snacks.
People dress in all different styles at Second Church, from formal to casual. We believe that God cares far more about your heart than your fashion, so we encourage you to dress in a way that honors God and is comfortable to you.
Fortunately, we’ve been blessed with a good bit of space for a downtown church. Parking lots can be found behind the church at the corner of John St. and Elizabeth St. and in front of the church on Ashmead Place, as well as on-street parking to the side of the church on Charlotte St.
Childcare is available for both Sunday School and our worship service. Aside from the nursery, young children can enjoy listening to Bible stories and singing songs in our children’s worship. Parents are asked to bring their kids to the adult service, where following the children’s sermon they will be escorted to the Education Building for children’s worship.
Is there a morning youth program?
There is a morning youth Bible study at 10:00am in the youth room. During our 11:15am worship service, youth and parents worship and learn together in the sanctuary.
Worship at Second Church is built upon a rich classical tradition, but isn’t afraid to sing a praise song to the piano every now and then. Expect to hear anything from Tudor-era Tallis to contemporary Chris Thomlin.
We joyfully serve communion on the 1st Sunday of the month.
I’m from a (fill in the blank) denominational background. Is that OK?
Of course! Second Church’s congregation has members who have come from Baptist, Methodist, Episcopal, non-denominational, and a host of other backgrounds. While we adhere to the democratic organizational structure of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and are proud of our rich Reformed heritage, we believe that there is only one name that God identifies us by, and that is the name of Christ. We are Christians first!
Where can I find out more about the Presbyterian Church (USA)?
If you’re interested in learning more about the Presbyterian Church (USA), we encourage you to visit the denominational website at www.pcusa.org for more information.
